The concept of the devil as a purely malevolent entity was a perception brought by the Spanish friars who arrived in New Spain. These Friars introduced christian ideas to the prehispanic community, who already lived with the duality of good and bad. Various masks use the devil’s image for celebrations.

Teselotl by Mitote was fully created and produced by the artist in 2024. The piece reflects Mitote’s ongoing exploration of cultural memory through contemporary materials and form.
